About Department of Fuel and Energy Technologies Engineering

The Department of Fuel and Energy Engineering Technology was established in 2024-2025 as a distinguished department at the Technical College of Engineering, Al-Ain University, Iraq. It is one of the rare departments in Iraq in terms of its uniqueness and specialization. The department prepares technical engineers specializing in fuel and energy. Its location in an oil-rich province, adjacent to several other provinces that are considered the primary source of energy in Iraq, is complemented by the prevailing regional environment, which provides job and investment opportunities due to the diversity of energy sources. The labor market relies directly on this department from oil companies and refineries in both the public and private sectors. The Department of Fuel and Energy Engineering Technology includes numerous practical laboratories, such as the Organic Chemistry and Petroleum Refining Laboratory, the Physical Chemistry Laboratory, the Analytical Chemistry and Fluids Laboratory, the Internal Combustion Engines Laboratory, the Electrical Laboratory, the Computer Laboratory, and the AutoCAD Laboratory. In addition, there is a crude oil refinery workshop where practical lessons are taught and laboratory experiments are conducted for students in various academic subjects. All this is supported by theoretical material that contributes to building the engineering foundations and scientific materials that support technical engineers, enabling them to work in the fields of fuel and energy in the petroleum and chemical industries and new and sustainable energy sources. This enables them to confront practical problems and achieve planned goals and objectives in the workplace. Graduates of the Department of Fuel and Energy Technology Engineering also possess the ability to complete postgraduate studies and conduct planning and economic feasibility studies, enabling them to participate effectively with their peers in other disciplines in the workplace.

Department's vision

Qualifying distinguished and innovative competencies scientifically, with high skill, professional and ethical behavior, capable of keeping pace with developments in the field of fuel and energy technology engineering and providing applicable solutions to confront scientific and engineering obstacles and community service.

Departmental message

Graduating distinguished technical engineers with advanced engineering knowledge and high proficiency in the fields of fuel and energy engineering technologies, by providing an advanced scientific environment and specialized personnel capable of completing higher education and professional learning, and providing community service within multidisciplinary work teams.

Department objectives

- Effectively apply engineering methods to solve professional problems related to the design, development, manufacture, and maintenance of fuel and energy engineering technologies and related systems, while understanding the social, ethical, and environmental context of their work. - Effectively communicate with diverse and international communities, collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams, and assume leadership roles while meeting employer expectations. - Continuously and periodically engage in professional technical development.

Admission requirements

- Preparatory school graduates in the science stream (applied and biological) are accepted with a morning GPA of 59.5. - Preparatory school graduates in the industrial stream (mechanics, air conditioning and refrigeration, oil refining and gas processing, and petrochemical industries) are accepted with a morning GPA of 62.5.

Student outcomes

The ability to identify, define, formulate, and solve computer engineering problems by applying the principles of engineering, science, and mathematics. The ability to produce engineering designs that meet desired needs within given constraints, such as public health and safety, global infrastructure, social culture, the environment, and the economy, by applying both analysis and synthesis in the design process. The ability to develop and conduct appropriate experiments, make appropriate measurements, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions. The ability to communicate skillfully with a range of people and write effectively, taking into account various levels of management. The ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering matters and make sound judgments, considering the consequences for financial, environmental, and societal considerations worldwide. The ability to recognize the ongoing need to acquire new professional knowledge and how to locate, evaluate, synthesize, and apply it appropriately. The ability to work appropriately within teams, setting goals, planning activities, meeting deadlines, and managing risk and uncertainty.
